Relentless No. 25 Texas Women’s Basketball beats Baylor at home 68-55

It has been a few years coming, five to be exact, since Texas Women’s Basketball has beaten Baylor Bears at home in Waco. +The relentless double digit scoring from five Texas players sealed the win 68-55.

Four Texas starters accounted for 76% of the points with Shaylee Gonzales, Rori Harmon, DeYona Gaston, and Sonya Morris all scoring 13 points each. This was Morris’ 14th time this season and fifth straight game to score in double digits. The Texas bench scored 14 points of which Taylor Jones owned 10 of those 14 points. Shay Holle had the other four.

If you were watching the game, the first quarter was a little slow ending with a tie 12-12. Morris scored first and Holle tied the game with a jump to end the first quarter. The exciting news was Texas had three blocks, 14 rebounds, and one steal. But then …

In the second quarter Texas scored 12 points again and thankfully Baylor only scored 10, however Baylor did take the lead two minutes into the second quarter — never to get it back for the rest of the game.

Texas came out of halftime and started shooting — and making high percentage shots in the paint amassing 30 points on the night from there. Texas shot 55.9 percent from the field compared to 28.1% from the field in the first half.

After a shot by either team, Texas dominated the rebounding with 48 on the night. DeYona Gaston grabbed 11 rebounds, Sonya Morris and Taylor Jones had seven each, Shaylee Gonzales and Rori Harmon had six each, Amina Muhammed secured five and Shay Holle took down four.

Late in the forth quarter Rori Harmon when down on what appeared a knew injury. There has been no official word on Harmon's injury, however Texas Athletics said there will be media availability on Jan. 24 (Tue) to preview the Oklahoma game, so we will find out the extent of Harmon's injuries and the potential impact of those on her career.

Overall No. 25 Texas is now 14-6 and 5-2 in Big 12 Conference standings.

Texas returns to the Moody Center Jan. 25 (WED) 7 p.m. to host Oklahoma
