Report: Texas DT Desmond Jackson Out with Ankle Injury | Horns Illustrated

According to Chip Brown (Scout.com), the Texas Longhorns may be without senior defensive tackle Desmond Jackson for the game against the Kansas Jayhawks. There is also a possibility that he could be out for longer, but there has been no official statement from the university yet.

As of Monday (at the time of the Big 12 teleconference), Jackson had not been evaluated by the training staff, but Charlie Strong said post game that Jackson injured his ankle.

There is speculation that the injury is a serious one, but again, there is no official word. Jackson did have this to say via Twitter:

Wescott Eberts from Burnt Orange Nation writes:

"Jackson had been a solid presence in the middle of the Texas defensive line through most of three games, recording 11 tackles, one fumble recovery against BYU, and a quarterback pressure.

His replacement, sophomore defensive tackle Paul Boyette, was steady during his time on the field, recording one tackle for loss among three tackles and recovering the fumble senior linebacker Steve Edmond forced that appeared to firmly swing momentum in favor of Texas late against UCLA.

If Jackson does indeed end up missing the game against Kansas, another sophomore defensive tackle, Hassan Ridgeway, should also see more playing time, though Ridgeway sometimes struggles when he has to play a series of snaps in a row, a concern entering Big 12 conference play."

The Horns have done a good job of being injury free on the defensive side of the ball, but if Jackson goes down, his absence will certainly be felt ... especially if he misses more than one game.
