Can you believe we are already at the 15th game of the season for No. 6 Texas Men’s Basketball as they travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma to face the Cowboys for the 103rd time in program history.

Texas has been a scoring machine this season averaging over 88 points per game over the past six games. In the past four games, Texas broke 100 points twice (Kansas State 103 and Louisiana 100).

Graduate guard Marcus Carr has been a force of nature for Texas in his leadership and scoring. Against Kansas State, Carr scored 27 points that gave him 2001-career points in the 140 games he has played throughout his college career. In the game against Texas A&M-Commerce, Carr scored 41 points.

Carr’s wingman sophomore guard Tyrese Hunter is also unstoppable. Hunter, against Kansas State, scored a career-high 29 points and has 169 points total so far this season.

This game will be interesting to watch for a couple reasons. The most obvious is Texas is a dynamic winning program and is exciting to watch. College basketball will watch to see how the team handles the loss of Chris Beard. Certainly, thus far in his absence they have demonstrated they are tough as nails and more than capable of being a serious contender in March.

Rodney Terry will be the Interim Head Coach for the rest of the season and is possibly the perfect coach to lead Texas. Terry knows coaching and developing players.

When Terry was an assistant coach from 2002-2011, both T.J. Ford and Kevin Durant played at Texas. In addition, in those nine years Texas had 13 players drafted, two in the second round (LaMarcus Aldridge to Chicago 2006, Kevin Durant to Seattle 2007).

The game will be on ESPNU nationally and of course The Longhorns IMG Radio Network Jan. 7 at 11 a.m. CST.
