THE ROADRUNNER basketball teams will open their first and only campaigns in the Western Athletic Conference when they take on Utah State Dec. 29. The men will face the Aggies at home, while the women will play on the road at Logan, Utah, for their first WAC game.

11 returning players from last year’s squad, received 59 points in the media poll to rank ahead of New Mexico State (56 points) and UT Arlington (53 points). The WAC selected the men’s team to finish seventh, while junior forward Jeromie Hill was named to the second  team. UTSA was 31 points ahead of Seattle (22), San Jose State (18) and Texas State (14).

Last season, Hill collected second- team NABC All-District 23 and All-Southland Conference accolades in addition to being chosen as Southland Student-Athlete of the Year. He recorded 12.5 points and a team-high 6.4 rebounds per game, and shot 48.6 percent from the floor, including 40.7 percent from behind the 3-point line.

UTSA seventh-year head coach Brooks Thompson welcomes back six letter winners — including two starters — from last year’s squad that won 18 games and finished third in the Southland’s West Division with a 10-6 mark. The Roadrunner athletic program will join Conference-USA on July 1.
