Smith within one of shutouts record after UT ties Oklahoma State, 0-0

STILLWATER, Okla. — The University of Texas defense allowed just six of 22 shots to end up on their goal, and senior goalkeeper Abby Smith saved all six to help the Longhorns tie Oklahoma State, 0-0, in double overtime.
The shutout was the 28th in Smith’s career, and she now needs just one more to tie (and two to break) the all-time Texas record, held by former UT goalkeeper Dianna Pfenninger, who had 29 shutouts between 2005 and 2008.
Texas head coach Angela Kelly said that in a conference as tough as the Big 12, getting points for the standings — especially when playing on the road — always is important.
“As I mentioned on Friday night, playing an away match in our league is always very challenging,” Kelly said. “It is critical to collect points on the road where you can get them in Big 12 play. Now, it’s back to work, and organizing to get the job done at home next weekend against Iowa State and TCU.”
Oklahoma State doubled up the Longhorns in total shots, 22-11, held a 6-4 edge in shots on goals and an 11-5 advantage in corner kicks. The Texas offense was led by freshman forward Alexa Adams, but UT (4-3-4 overall, 1-1-1 in conference games) was unable to score for the third time in its last four games and the sixth time in 11 games this season.
