AUSTIN — Texas sophomore forward Cyera Hintzen, who capped off her stellar debut season last year by being named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, is one of 11 players named to the 2017 Preseason All-Big 12 team, the league announced.

Texas was one of five teams — along with Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Baylor and TCU — with one player on the team; defending Big 12 champion and national runner-up West Virginia had the other six.

Hintzen scored twice as a freshman while leading her team in shots (46) and shots on goal (19).

In a poll of the conference’s coaches, the Longhorns were picked to finish eighth among the 10 teams in the Big 12.

Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams, meaning every coach who could voted for West Virginia to repeat as conference champion. Kansas was projected to finish second behind the Mountaineers.
