Texas went to Tuscaloosa and beat Alabama by 10 points (34-24). Special teams kicker junior #45 Bert Auburn form Flower Mound, TX, made four PATs and two field goals from 32 and 29-yards that added 10 points for Texas.
In 2022, Auburn scored 118 points (second most by a place-kicker in a single season) with 21 field goals and 55 PATS (55 of 55) averaging 9.1 points a game and concluded as the fourth-most accurate season for a kicker in UT history (80.8%). This season Auburn is pacing at 11.5 points per game based on the first two games. At this rate, Auburn may surpass Texas’ current record holder for most points by a place-kicker, Cameron Dicker amassed 386 points in his career.
For Texas, special teams play a vital role in the success of the team. Whether a field goal, PAT, kickoff return, or block punt or FG, Texas looks at their special teams as a game changing secret weapon. Coach Banks refers to special teams as the “WE-fense” because players from both offense and defense make up special teams so everyone is invested in their success.
