Spieth Finishes Tied For 41st At PGA Tour Texas Valero Open
Texas freshman Jordan Spieth shot a final-round 75 Sunday at TPC San Antonio and finished tied for 41st place at 4-over-par 292 (70-72-75).
In five career PGA TOUR starts, Spieth has made the cut three times. He previously finished tied for 16th at the 2010 HP Byron Nelson Championship and tied for 32nd at the same event in 2011.
“I gained a lot of confidence from it,” Spieth said. “It didn’t end the right way, but it was a great week overall.”
Spieth’s final round included four bogeys on the fifth, sixth, 13th and 18th holes and a lone birdie on 14.
During Saturday’s third round, Spieth climbed as high as the top-five on the leaderboard before a bogey-double bogey finish set him back as he closed in 40 to shoot 72.
This was the second PGA TOUR event of the year for Spieth, who earlier this season missed the cut at the Northern Trust Open.
Spieth and the Longhorns return to action next weekend in the Big 12 Championships at Whispering Pines in Trinity, Texas.
