SPIRIT OF THE MONTH: SARA BETH PURDY
Plenty of faithful Longhorns — both former and current — gather on the 40 Acres to participate in the festivities that home football games bring every fall. But while some enjoy the amenities of tailgating, senior Sara Beth Purdy prepares for Texas football games a little differently. Purdy, a member of the Longhorn Band, arrives at the stadium five hours before kickoff. And although the band and her studies demand most of her time, Purdy finds time to tutor kids from her high school. She also covers the Texas softball team for the school newspaper, The Daily Texan. As April and May’s Spirit of the Month, Purdy took a break from her busy schedule to give Horns Illustrated a little insight into what it takes to be part of the Showband of the Southwest.
