over Savannah State and UT Pan American. The team then faced Stephen F. Austin for the championship game and fell in straight sets.

“We played better with every match,” coach Diane Seymour said. “We didn’t’ win the last one but we played at a faster pace. That type of success may not show up when you say we went 2-1, but I think UTA had three successful matches.” UT Arlington went on to lose its next match against North Texas 3-2 in a tune-up before heading up to Chicago for the UIC Invitational.

The Mavericks opened invitational play with a 3-1 victory over the University of Illinois Aug. 31. On the final day, the team went 0-2, with losses to Eastern Michigan and Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne. Shelby Dickson and Amy Davault each finished with a double-double. Dickson had 12 kills and 24 digs while Davault had 16 kills and 18 digs. This marks the second time these two have double-doubled in the same match. “We let a good opportunity slip away against the Eastern Michigan team. Then we were emotionally drained going into the last match,” Seymour commented. At the conclusion of the UIC Invitational, Amanda Welsh was named to the all-tournament team.
