AUSTIN, Texas – Friday night at Disch-Falk Field fans experienced a stellar performance by Big 12 Preseason Pitcher of the Year right-hander #57 Lebarron Johnson Jr. who faced 28 batters, threw 100 pitches over eight innings, struck out eight, gave up only two hits, never allowed more than one baserunner per inning, and retired the last eight batters he faced.
Of the 100 pitches Johnson threw, 69 were strikes.
Texas’ bats were in a cooling off period with just five hits and two runs in the game. This comes after an impressive start of the season in the first four games where Texas had a total of 52 hits and 41 runs.
Freshman Dee Kenedy from Fort Worth, Texas scored first after getting a walk in the fifth, made his way to second on a balk, then to third on a wild pitch, and home after Jared Thomas hit an infield single to third base.
In the eighth, Thomas hit a double followed by a double by Peyton Powell that scored Thomas and put Texas up 2-0. Jalin Flores also had a doubled in the bottom of the sixth.
