Even though it’s been seven years, Florida continues to beat Texas. This time it started in the first inning with a six run shock-n-awe campaign that left Texas seeing stars.
While many Texas players have been battling the flu, they did not want to use that as an excuse. Four losses in the last five games seems to have Texas wobbling a bit.
Kimble Schuessler and Jalin Flores represented two Texas runs. Schuessler scored on an Adrian Rodriguez triple to left and Flores scored when Casey Borba hit a ball deep to shortstop allowing Flores to get an unearned run.
No. 27 Grayson Saunier may have been the big story for the game and series. Saunier stayed on the mound for 5.1 innings throwing 72 pitches at 22 batters and striking out four. Saunier found the strike zone 72.2% of the time or 52 pitches which is incredible for any pitcher.
With Saunier being on the mound longer than usual, he allowed other pitchers more time to recover and get ready for games down the road. He may prove to be a key factor in Texas’ pitcher recovery.
We asked coach Schlossnagle for some details of what he liked and did not like about the game tonight.
Schlossnagle said, “I think Saunier was great. He threw a lot of strikes. I think Hamilton has been really good for us lately, about three or four times in a row. We have asked him to come in and eat up some innings and do well. We caught the ball really well ,,, we played good defense, but we just gave up too many free bases.”
Texas plays Florida again on May 10th at 1PM and will likely end about the time everyone descends on UT for graduation.
Texas now has an overall record of 39-9 (.812) and 19-6 (.760) in SEC Conference play. While Texas has lost four games at home this season, this one is only the second SEC loss at home. The first was LSU on Mar.21.
