AUSTIN, Texas — There were 12 Texas Longhorns football players eligible for the 2022 NFL Draft. Every player has dedicated their life in the pursuit of excellence in the hopes of playing for an NFL team one day. There are many paths to becoming an NFL player. The NFL Draft is only one of them.
After the 2022 NFL Draft, there were no Texas players drafted, however that did not stop NFL teams from signing Texas players immediately after the draft was over.
For some strange reason, critics are pointing out and making a big deal about the fact that Texas did not have any players ‘drafted’ this year.
To use a reference from Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian during a media availability last season about a quote called The Man In The Arena, from a speech “Citizenship in a Republic” given by Theodore Roosevelt, we can ask ourselves, “Are we fans and supporters of the Texas Longhorns players, or simply a critic?,” because:
“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”
The fact is that there are many ways to become an NFL player.
Let us stand up, raise both our arms with the Hook’Em, and cheer with loud celebration for the six Texas players who are now NFL professional football players:
