Texas Men’s Basketball Marcus Carr put on Oscar Robertson Trophy Top 50 Watch List

The United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) announced their Top 50 Watch List for the Oscar Robinson Trophy and Texas Men’s Basketball Marcus Carr was named to the list.

The award was named in honor of the University of Cincinnati Hall of Famer and two-time USBWA Player of the Year Oscar Robertson. It is the only award named after a former player. Robertson was ranked as the 36th best American athlete of the 20th century by ESPN. In 2021, Robertson was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team after being honored as one of the NBA’s greatest players of all-time.

Marcus Carr is a two-time Big 12 Conference Player of the Week this season, and is the leading scorer for the Longhorns averaging 17.1 ppg. Carr has an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.66, shoots 45.1-percent from the floor, 40.9-percent from three-point range, and hits 81.0-percent of his free throws.

Carr surpassed 2,000-points in his collegiate career this season and now has 2055 in the 144 games he has played. Carr scored 41-points for the second time in his collegiate career and also tied the University of Texas school record for the most three-point field goals going 10-15 this season against Texas A&M-Commerce.

Before the NCAA Tournament starts in March and after Texas’ regular season ends, the entire USBWA membership will vote for who of the Top 50 will be awarded the Oscar Robertson Trophy. The winner will be announced at the 2023 Men’s Final Four in Houston, Texas that starts Apr. 1 and goes to Aug 3.
