Texas Men’s Basketball too physical for West Virginia in crushing win 94-60

West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins said they were not prepared for how physical Texas was and that Sir'Jabari Rice made his shots and talked a lot — to the players and even Huggins. Apparently, Rice got inside their heads with ease.

AUSTIN, Texas — In a near perfect game No. 5 Texas Men’s Basketball played precision basketball led by Sir’Jabari Rice, who played just 17 minutes, scored 24 points and presented West Virginia a crushing loss 94-60 they will not soon forget.

Less than a month ago when Texas was in Morgantown. West Virginia was able to hold Texas to 69 points, but not this game. Sir’Jabari Rice took six shots from the field and missed just once. Rice went to the free throw line 10 times and hit 100%.

Marcus Carr put in 16 points and had four assists.

Timmy Allen achieved a remarkable milestone. Allen started the game with 1,999 points in 143 games and ended with 14 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and one steal. Allen had no fouls or turnovers and now has 2013 career points.

In the post game press conference, West Virginia commented that they were not prepared for how physical Texas was, though Allen indicated that Texas did not play any more physically than normal.

Arterio Morris stepped up and scored 12 points that included back-to-back three-pointers.

During the game as we studied the game, the word ‘precision defense’ was the best way to describe what we were seeing. Several times we saw Texas triple team West Virginia and regularly double teamed them.

Texas scored 32 points off West Virginia’s 20 turnovers. Plus, Texas made 28 points in the paint while restricting West Virginia from the paint, though they were ble to sink 12 points from the paint.

Fans were pumping their fist saying, “Yes,” when Tryese Hunter showed signs of resurrecting his dominance. Hunter took 12 shots and scored seven points. 

To put icing on the win, Cole Bott took the final shot, a three-pointer with 0:41 seconds left and made it. 

Coach Terry commented previously that February was a separation month where teams start to distance (separate) themselves in the competitive field of teams all with March Madness goggles on.

Texas once again demonstrated their elite play under Rodney Terry with 20-5 overall record, 14-1 at the Moody Center. Texas is 13-4 under coach Terry's lead.

Texas travels to Lubbock, Texas to battle Texas Tech Feb. 13 (Mon) at 8 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN.
