Texas Men’s Golf: Scottie Scheffler Wins Phil Mickelson Award

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas freshman Scottie Scheffler is the recipient of the Phil Mickelson Award, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced on Wednesday.

The award is presented by the Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation as the most outstanding freshman in Division I men’s golf.

Scheffler is the first Longhorn to earn the award since Brandon Stone in 2013. (Continue reading below…)

 

(…Continued from above) Scheffler had a spectacular freshman season after posting back-to-back medalist honors and earning five more top-10 finishes over the season.

He won the Western Intercollegiate, defeating seven of the country’s top 25 players and followed with an individual Big 12 Championship.

He was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year and to the Ping All-Region Team.
