The long awaited game against Texas and Texas Tech. Boy, were they mad when Texas announced they would be moving to the SEC.
The University of Texas at Austin President Jay Hartzell had to testify before a special committee at the Texas State Capitol to explain the move and officially be raked over the coals by members of the committee…for over three hours.
They were so mad.
This game determines if Texas will be the #1 seed in the Big 12 Championship game and thus the home team that will be played on Dec 2 at AT&T Stadium.
While we may think Texas Tech will be an easy win, let’s hope the Texas players do not think so. This game is literally the biggest game in the State of Texas.
Not one Texas team has been able to subdue the Texas Longhorns in the final season, though it was close. A Texas Tech win would give them bragging rights for all of eternity and they would likely consider themselves the greatest team in the entire state.
The game likely will not be a blow out like 50-3 or anything like that, however, look for the Longhorns to dominate in all phases of the game.
We may see negative rushing yards for Texas Tech like what almost was when the Texas defense handled Iowa State by holding them to just nine yards rushing last week.
Sarkisian seems like the coach who would much prefer to control, dominate, and subdue opponents versus run up the score.
Instead of a 55-3 ending score, how about forcing Texas Tech to punt on every drive, not allowing a pass more than five yards, and not allowing the field goal kicker to play once in the game.
What if Texas did not have a single fourth down, no penalties (okay that may be a stretch), and they converted every time in the Red Zone?
Texas Tech has always been the little brother to Texas. Since 1928 the two have battled 72 times with Texas the overall leader 54-18.
The noise level at DKR will be so loud the International Space Station will be able to pick up the game from space. Looking forward to seeing how many fans pack DKR and will attendance exceed the record of 105,213.
It is a given that if Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yomark is introduced on the field or appears on the jumbotron, the fans will give him a welcome like he has never seen before. That will likely make highlight reels for sure.
A Texas win saves the Big 12 from figuring out what to do in the event of a tie among Texas, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, and Oklahoma providing the others win.
We may see Arch Manning play a drive or two depending on the score. Sarkisian loves Texas and the game. Giving Manning an opportunity to introduce himself would be icing on the cake for fans and all of college football who have been chomping at the bit wanting to see Manning play.
If Manning throws a long touchdown pass, expect social media to melt.
Here’s how we see the game going. Texas will methodically play their style of football, running the ball anytime anywhere, efficient drives, good-to-great passing, and a defense that puts the SEC on notice.
Texas is prepared to compete in the SEC!
Wait there’s more…
Behind the scenes, there is an official rivalry that was established in 1996 when The University of Texas System and Texas Tech University System first included chancellor’s known as the Battle For The Chancellor’s Spurs.
The University of Texas System Chancellor is James B. Milliken. Texas Tech System Chancellor is Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D.
The trophy is named the “Chancellor’s Spurs” and will be transferred to the winning team’s chancellor. The trophy is a set of spurs that are gold and silver and engraved with Texas Tech’s Double T and Texas’ interlocking UT logo.

I personally think it would be great if the Big XII commissioner is introduced and the fans start the S-E-C chant. I know it is a bit childish and we are above that, but would be a little giggle moment. Then Texas wins the game and the Big XII championship game.
You know, you are correct. It is childish. Just as childish as the commissioner doing what he did and what he said about Texas. You mess with the bull, you get the horns.
Coaches, staff, and folks in management do not normally speak on games or try to insight anything. That is why you see coaches speak respectfully of other coaches and teams. It is a rare event when it happens.
The commissioner’s remarks were not becoming of a commissioner. However, when you think about from a business standpoint, it was a genius move. I would imagine that one of his responsibilities is to grow the conference and generate revenue.
As such, the Texas vs Texas Tech game likely will have a record TV audience. Brett Yormark is a promoter and knows how to sell TV. For that, I kind of give it to him for saying what he did.
The Texas fans will still likely eat his lunch.
