Texas soccer drops 2020 opener at home to Kansas, 1-0

AUSTIN, Texas — Senior midfielder Ceri Holland scored in the 81st minute, and that was enough for the visiting Kansas Jayhawks to blank the Texas soccer team, 1-0, Friday at Mike A. Myers Stadium. in the 2020 season opener for each team.

Texas fell to 15-11-1 in season-opening matches and 14-9-2 all-time in Big 12 Conference openers.

Texas outshot Kansas, 12-7, including a 7-4 edge in shots on goal, but were unable to put one past KU goalkeeper Sarah Peters. UT's Savannah Madden picked up three saves while suffering the loss.

Midfielder Julia Grosso led the Texas offense with three shots, including a pair of shots on goal. Haley Berg, Emily Strouphauer and Mackenzie McFarland each added a pair of shots; McFarland matched Grosso with a pair of shots on goal.

After Holland scored the game's only goal in lower left corner, the Kansas defense tightened up, limiting the Longhorns to a single shot in the final minutes.

All of the Longhorns' games this season are scheduled to be played on Fridays. UT will have a chance to even up its record next Friday against TCU in Fort Worth.
