Texas soccer drops second straight, 2-1

BOULDER, Colorado — Sophomore midfielder Julia Grosso scored her team-high third goal of the young season, but it was not enough to prevent the No. 11 Texas soccer team from falling, 2-1, at Colorado.

After opening the season with a 4-3 win over Gonzaga, the Longhorns have[s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)] lost two straight to fall to 1-2 this season; Colorado improved to 4-0-0. Texas lost, 3-0, Thursday at the University of Denver.

After surrendering goals in the 47thminute and the 63rdminute to fall behind, 2-0, the Longhorns fought back.

Grosso scored her team-leading third tally of the season in the 73rdminute, and earned a penalty kick in the final second of regulation, only to have junior Haley Berg’s attempt Haley Berg off the crossbar, ending the game.

Two of the Longhorns’ three games this season have been decided on penalty kicks in the waning minutes. In the season-opening victory over Gonzaga. UT goalkeeper Savannah Madden stopped a penalty kick with five seconds remaining.

Texas outshot Colorado, 19-16.

The Longhorns will try to get back on track Friday when they host Stephen F. Austin.
