The Texas Softball team finished the regular season with a 3-2 victory over Baylor on Mother’s Day. The Longhorns gave their seniors a proper send off on senior day with a walk-off win thanks to an RBI by senior Taylor Thom that plated senior Brejae Washington.

The Longhorns finished the 2014 regular season with a 33-21 record and 12-6 record in Big 12 play. The as will travel to Lafayette to face Mississippi State in round one of the Women’s College World Series on Friday night. Louisiana-Lafayette, who is hosting the regional, and Texas Southern will join the Longhorns in Louisiana this weekend.
“It couldn’t have been scripted any better,” said Texas head coach Connie Clark following the victory.
Thom and Washington, along with fellow seniors Mandy Ogle and Karina Scott, played in their final home appearance on Sunday. All four seniors went a combined 5-for-11 at the oblate and finished with two RBIs and two runs.
In the circle, freshman Tiarra Davis threw a company,tee game and finished with the win. It was her 22nd complete game. Davis had one strike out and three walks and extended her record to 18-12 for the season.
The Texas offense scored first with two runs in the second inning. Ogle plated freshman Devon Tunning for the Longhorns’ first score. Junior Gabby Smith scored the Longhorns’ second run off a sacrifice fly by freshman Stephanie Wong.
Baylor scored a run in the third and another in the fifth to tie the game at two-all.
In the final inning, with the score still tied, Washington beat out a bunt to first base to set up the walk off opportunity for Thom. Thom stepped up to the plate and smacked a double to right center field to push Washington across homeplate for the win.
On Wednesday night, the Longhorns fell to Baylor 2-1 on the road in Waco. With the loss, the Longhorns clinched third place in the Big 12 Conference. Davis was saddled with the loss and Thom scored the Longhorns’ only run in loss thanks to an RBI double by Davis.
