Texas volleyball sweeps Texas Tech, retains sole possession of Big 12 lead

AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 8 Texas volleyball team improved to 12-4 on the season, and 7-1 in Big 12 matches, with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-21) sweep over Texas Tech Saturday at Gregory Gym. The victory was the 35th straight for the Longhorns over the Red Raiders, and the 30th consecutive home win over a Big 12 team.

With the win, Texas remains in first place in the Big 12, a game ahead of 6-2 Kansas.

Outside hitter Micaya White led the UT offense with 17 kills (and no errors), while adding 12 digs and an ace — the double-double was her seventh of the season.

Senior outside hitter Yazmeen Bedart-Ghani had a career-high 16 kills and three blocks, while Morgan Johnson had four kills and led the Texas defense with seven blocks.

Sophomore setter Ashley Shook quarterbacked the offense, with a match-high 41 assists, while freshman Sydney Petersen collected 11 digs. The match was the 40th this season in which Shook has had 40 or more assists.

Texas now heads north to take on Iowa State at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Ame in a match that can be seen on ESPNU before heading home to welcome Oklahoma to Austin for a 3 p.m. match Saturday afternoon that will be shown on the Longhorn Network.
