The QB Stack Up: Texas Quinn Ewers vs Iowa State Rocco Becht

The second to last game in Big 12 Conference play may be the most important. An Iowa State win would throw the Big 12 Conference into disarray and cause a five-way tie for first place, providing Oklahoma , Kansas State, Oklahoma State also win.

The game depends on the QB playing elite efficient football for FOUR QUARTERS. The caps were an intentional poke at Texas.

Let’s be honest, if Texas returns to the way they played at Alabama and the beginning of the season, even Georgia would have a hard time against Texas, and so would Michigan, Ohio State, Florida State, Washington, and Oregon. 

So, let’s look at their leaders, sophomore at Texas #3 Quinn Ewers and Iowa State redshirt freshman #3 Rocco Becht.

Ewers has more experience overall with 18 games (10 in 2022) under his belt as quarterback in games, whereas Becht has 13 games (3 in 2022). Ewers has thrown 542 passing and completed 345 and Becht has thorwn 300 passes and completed 184 of them in their collegiate careers thus far.

Ewers has thrown four interceptions and Becht has thrown seven in the 2023 season thus far.

The bottom line for either team to win will come down to how efficient will either team execute drives and score. 

In the red zone, Texas has struggled. Iowa State ranks 13th in Red Zone Offense from scoring 18 TD’s on 30 attempts and 10 FG’s. Texas is ranked 87th from scoring 19 TD’s on 41 attempts and 13 FG’s in the Red Zone.
