Tom Herman named to Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award Midseason Watch List

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas football head coach Tom Herman is one of 19 coaches named to the midseason watch list for the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award, the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl announced Thursday. 

It is the second time since arriving at Texas that Herman has made the midseason watch list for the award (he was similarly honored in 2018). He is one of four Big 12 coaches to appear on the list, joined by Iowa State’s Matt Campbell, Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley and Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy.

In Herman’s first four seasons at Texas, the Longhorns have won 30 games, the fourth-highest total for a UT head coach at this stage in his career. The Longhorns won 38 games in Mack Brown’s first four seasons, followed by the 36 victories won in the same time period under Fred Akers and 32 in the first four seasons under Blair Cherry.

Under Herman, Texas is 5-2 in 2020; his best season was 2018, when he guided the Longhorns to 10 victories. UT is 3-0 in bowl games during his tenure.

A panel consisting of previous Dodd Trophy winners, national media, a member of the Dodd family and a College Football Hall of Fame member will identify the final list of potential recipients at the conclusion of the 2020 season. The winner of the 2020 Dodd Trophy will be announced in Atlanta during the week of the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
