Texas Women’s Golf senior Nicole Vandermade recorded the only under-par score of the Big 12 Championship while shooting a 1-under 69 in Saturday’s second round at Lawrence Country Club. After 11 bogeys yesterday, Vandermade made par on all holes except for a birdie on nine and finished the day in a tie for fifth individually at 10-over 150 (81-69).
As a team, the Longhorns (325-298=623) are in sixth place and 15 strokes behind 36-hole leader Oklahoma (316-292=608, +48) with one round remaining.
Texas had a 21-stroke improvement to move from eighth place at the beginning of the day. Friday’s first-round scores averaged 81.40 as wind ravaged the Lawrence area. Under more desirable conditions, scores on Saturday averaged nearly five strokes better overall with an average of 76.78.
