VIDEO: Colt McCoy Talks About His Youth Football Camp
(From Hookem.com) - Before he was a Westlake wunderkind or a four-star freshman at Texas, Sam Ehlinger was a participant at Colt McCoy’s annual youth football camp.
That stop on Ehlinger’s timeline is not lost on McCoy.
“You make me feel old with that,” the 30-year-old Washington Redskins quarterback and former UT star said.
Colt McCoy met the media on Monday during a break at his annual Colt McCoy Football ProCamp, now in its sixth year. Earlier in the morning he worked out with Texas players and Yancy McKnight, UT’s new strength and conditioning coach.
McCoy appeared optimistic about the direction the Texas program is heading. “I think they’re poised and ready to make some noise,” he said.
Longhorns coach Tom Herman has not named a starter at Colt McCoy’s old position. Sophomore Shane Buechele threw 21 touchdowns last season and his 2,958 yards broke McCoy’s freshman-season mark that he set in 2006. Ehlinger is a four-star prospect from Westlake who enrolled early and went through spring drills.
Colt McCoy said he observed some struggles this spring as the quarterbacks adapted to a new offense. He was, though, pleased with what he saw of Buechele and Ehlinger, and he also lauded UT’s deep receiving corps.
“It’s never a bad thing to have two guys who can play, so we’ll see where that goes,” McCoy said. “When you talk about our football team, but in college football in general, if you have a gunslinger, if you have a guy who can play at that position, you always have a chance to win games. I know that coach Herman feels good about that spot right now.”
