WHERE ARE THEY NOW – JOHN FUQUAY
After playing his first three seasons as the starting quarterback at Texas Lutheran from 1985-87, the school dropped its football program. Soon after coach David McWilliams allowed Fuquay to walk onto the Texas football team. Fuquay threw well during spring practice, but McWilliams advised him to switch to the defensive side of the ball if he wanted to see any playing time. Fuquay made the switch and played nickel back and special teams for the ’88 Longhorns.
Fuquay was... awarded the “Shearson Lehman Hutton – Special Teams Player of the Week” Sept. 17, 1988. After making the tackle on every kickoff and a few more on defense in a 47-0 win over the University of New Mexico, Fuquay tied UT’s all-time leading tackler Britt Hager, for tackles in a game.
Now living in New Braunfels, Fuquay manages the operations of his family’s construction business, Fuquay Inc. He has three children with his wife of 21 years, Kay: JD (20), Amy Kaye (16) and Allie (11). In his free time, Fuquay enjoys hunting, fishing and golf.
