Will Sarkisian play QB Maalik Murphy in Alamo Bowl

If Sarkisian does play Maalik Murphy in the Alamo Bowl, watch out. Like all great stories, the end of one chapter usually leaves you shocked, wondering what just happened, and thirsty for more.

Throughout the 2022 season, Sarkisian would make comments regularly on Maalik Murphy and how he took notice of Murphy's improvements after suffering a foot injury in preseason. With Hudson Card in the transfer portal (we think he goes to Baylor), it appears Murphy may get some playing time in the Alamo Bowl.

Practice photos show Murphy practicing alongside Quinn Ewers.

Like having a brand new Corvette Stingray and not being able to take it for a drive, Sarkisian may be eager to see how the 6’5” 225 lb freshman from Inglewood, California Maalik Murphy does under center in the Alamo Bowl. No doubt, Murphy is wanting snaps also.

If Murphy plays in the Alamo Bowl for enough time to put up impressive numbers like Casey Thompson did in 2020 after coming in for the 2nd half, then the college football world will be glued to Texas and the quarterback battle for next season.

Watch out Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning — there will be a Texas-sized fight for QB1 … and it will be AWESOME!

Competition is something fierce. It brings out a persons very best and is a great equalizer. As the saying goes, “Cream rises to the top.” Sarkisian may have crafted the perfect situation by having three top quarterbacks that he recruited, competing for the starting position.

The Alamo Bowl — it is going to be good!
