Will TCU take a page from Oklahoma and Houston

Hey, all fair in love and war…and football, well except there is no holding or unsportsmanlike conduct in football. Oklahoma handed Texas their first loss in the Red River Rivalry. One of the ways they defeated Texas was by changing up their defensive schemes and it confused Texas, hence two back-to-back interceptions on the first two drives of the game. Quinn Ewers and Texas did recover to have a productive game.

The Oklahoma win was not entirely the changing of their defensive schemes, but enough to discombobulate Texas early on and not allow Texas to blow them out like they did in 2022.

The Players Shop

The next week against Houston, a game Texas should have won in their sleep, was the same story. Houston changed the way they played the previous games so they could throw Texas off, or at least surprise them. Houston head coach Dale Holgorsen shared that Sarkisian said to him after the game, “Really, you went to a 3-3-5 defense?” Holgorsen also commented that this was the best Texas team he has seen in over 22 years and said that had they not changed up their schemes that the score would have be 85-0.

Will Sunny Dykes and TCU do the same? Is Sarkisian ready for any shenanigans TCU might throw at Texas? Dykes is a veteran coach in his 13th year and 2nd at TCU. Last year TCU was able to hold Texas to 199 yards of total offense and hold Bijan Robinson to 29 yards rushing. With out changing anything, TCU has the understanding of how to compete against a powerful No. 7 Texas team and they are not in the least bit afraid, especially since it will be in front of their home crowd.

If things got crazy in Bedlam Series after OSU beat OU, they will need to rebuild the stadium if TCU beats Texas in Fort Worth.

We are talking BIG IF’s. Texas will likely bring Ewers back in at QB and turn him loose. Ewers has had a couple weeks to heal his shoulder and also rest his mind and study the game from a different perspective. You have to believe that Ewers is processing the game at even higher level because he has had the time.

How Texas handles TCU will have a dramatic outcome on how Texas is treated by the College Football Playoff committee. Now, Texas is placed at No.7 one up from No. 8 Alabama. Another ‘ugly’ win by Texas and an efficient well managed win by Alabama may leave the committee with no choice but to promote Alabama.

It will be another excellent football game for Texas, TCU and the entire state of Texas and will be aired on ABC Nov. 11 at 6:30 PM.
