Women’s Basketball ‘Shoot for a Cure’ kicks off breast cancer awareness month

Karen Aston and the Texas Women's Basketball team are celebrating the strength and courage of countless breast cancer survivors and fighters throughout the month of February.

Help raise awareness as we search for a cure, and join us on Saturday, Feb. 4 to kick off a month-long commitment to pink and the hope that color emotes and transcends. Wear pink as we do our part to educate the next generation of young people how early detection can save lives in the fight against breast cancer.

The Longhorns host K-State on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the annual Shoot for a Cure game. Pink shirts will be tossed into the crowd, and St. David's hosts a table on the concourse featuring pink grab-bag items as well as informational material.

Survivors interested in participating in a rally line, encouraging the Longhorns as they leave the tunnel to take on the Wildcats, should email Matthew.Hay@athletics.utexas.edu with the following information:

Name
Daytime phone number
E-mail address
Years a survivor

Additionally, survivors are encouraged to visit the Frank Erwin Center box office on Saturday to claim a free ticket to the game against K-State.

The month of awareness culminates on Sunday, Feb. 20, when the Longhorns square off against Baylor in an ESPN2-broadcast game dedicated to raising breast cancer awareness. As NFL teams and fans wear pink throughout October in honor of breast cancer survivors, fighters and change-makers, Texas fans are also encouraged to wear pink to all home games throughout February.
