MILWAUKEE, Wis — Texas wins their first NCAA Tournament Round One game in eight years, four Longhorns scored double digits, and Chris Beard is now 5-0 in NCAA Round One games. Texas plays No. 10 Purdue Mar. 20 (SUN) at 7:40 p.m.

Senior Andrew Jones was the star of the first half with 17 first half points, 15 points from three-point range, and his fifth with only six seconds left before the half to give Texas a one-point lead, however six seconds can be a long time in basketball.

Virginia Tech got fouled and scored two at the free-throw line to go up by one point with two seconds left on the clock giving Texas enough time to inbound the ball.

Jones inbounds to Marcus Carr who gets the ball about five feet from the basket, takes seven long strides and launches the ball 60’ feet from the basket just above the three-point line on the opposite end of the court, the buzzer goes off and everyone watches in awe as the ball banks goes in for three points sending Texas into the half up by two, 34-32.

Here is a great retention from a fan.

There is not a known stat that tracks buzzer shots for college players, however Marcus Carr has to be one of the top leading buzzer beater shot makers in history, even going back to his days in Minnesota and Pittsburgh.

Marcus broke his two game scoring slump and scored 15 points plus nine assists, Timmy Allen scored 14 points, his 408th point this season. Christian Bishop hit 11 points, Courtney Ramey scored 10 points, and Andrew Jones ended the game with a game-high 21 points.

Jones is now UT’s ninth all-time leading scorer with 1,605 points.

Texas Men’s Basketball are 22-11 going into the matchup with No. 10 Purdue on Mar. 20 (SUN) 7:40 p.m.
