The Texas Longhorns had not choice but to play their greatest football of season. At stake was a Big 12 Championship and the undeniable right to play in the College Football Playoffs. Had Texas just play an average game, yet won, they would not have been selected by the committee to play Washington in the semifinals of the CFP.

Texas played their most efficient football of the season and certainly in a long-long time. Lead by Quinn Ewers, Texas beat Oklahoma State 49-21, Texas scored seven touchdowns while putting up 662 yards of Total offense. Ewers passed for 452 yards with 35 completions, both are records in Big 12 Championship play.

Ewers found Adonai Mitchell and Ja'Tavion Sanders within the first 3:23 minutes of the first quarter to start the process of dominating the entire game. Texas had 11 drives and scored seven touchdown.

At the conclusion of the game, Ewers was awards the games MVP for his performance in the game. Ewers would break several Big 12 Championship game records:

  • #1 Most Yards Gained: 458 (452 passing, 6 rushing)
  • #1 Most Passing Yards: 452
  • #1 Completions: 35 Tied
  • #1 Touchdown Passes: 4

During pre game, we sat down with Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark and discovered that the game was broadcast in Time Square and also in 140 countries around the world.

We asked Ewers after the game if he could share with Texas Longhorns fans around the globe what it feels like to be a Champion and play football for The University of Texas.

Here is what Quinn said:

I like exploring the why's and have three objectives. First is to give value to those who would spend time with our content. Second is to be respectful of others and for the opportunity to tell a positive story about all of the Texas Longhorns teams, players, and coaches regardless of their record. Lastly, to put wind in the sails of others using the Horns Illustrated platform. Life is GOOD!
