2026 Red River Rivalry Upset: Oklahoma Defeats No. 1 Texas 27-24

Texas met its match at the Cotton Bowl as Oklahoma defeated No. 1 Texas 27-24 on a 47-yard field goal with three seconds left. The Golden Hat has a new home in Oklahoma.
The Texas offense never fully sustained its early success, and Oklahoma stayed in the fight despite being bruised by the Longhorns’ defense. Oklahoma was forced into nine punts over 14 drives.
Texas finished with 382 total yards of offense—260 through the air from Arch Manning (19-of-31) and 20 on the ground. The running game managed just 122 yards.
Cam Coleman pulled in five catches for 110 yards and a touchdown. Ryan Wingo added a touchdown with two catches for 57 yards, and Jermaine Bishop Jr. scored his first career touchdown.
The Texas defense was elite. Holding the Sooners to 83 yards rushing on 31 carries (2.7 yards per attempt) is like running into a brick wall. Linebacker Rasheem Biles was brutal with 12 tackles (three solo). Colin Simmons had two sacks. Jelani McDonald finished with seven tackles, while Maraad Watson and Hero Kanu each had five, plus a sack by Watson.
Ultimately, Oklahoma stayed in the fight and pulled out the win. Manning’s two interceptions—one a pick-six—proved costly. This loss will sting for a bit. Short term, the best way to recover is to do what Hero Kanu said postgame: “We have to take ownership, fix the mistakes. The season is not over, guys.”
Next up is Florida, who will be chomping at the bit when they come to Texas next Saturday.
