411OnTheForty: Collier named Big 12 Player of the Week
IRVING, Texas — Charli Collier was named Big 12 Player of the Week Monday after leading the Texas women's basketball team to a pair of lopsided victories to start the 2020-21 season.
Collier averaged 34.5 points per game and 14.0 rebounds per game to lead the Longhorns past SMU, 90-51, in the season opener and then to a 106-69 rout of North Texas.
Collier was sidelined for a large part of Wednesday's contest against SMU due to two quick fouls, but she still scored 25 points in 19 minutes. Sunday against UNT, Collier played 34 minutes and scored a career-high 44 points. It marked the fourth-best single game scoring performance in program history, and the most points scored by a Longhorn since 1994.
Not surprisingly, Collier's averages of 34.5 points and 14.0 rebounds per game lead the Longhorns in each category.
Texas will host Louisiana Tech and Texas A&M this week at the Frank Erwin Center. UT and LaTech will tip off at 7 p.m. Wednesday in a game that can be seen on the Longhorn Network, and will host the Aggies at 7 p.m. Sunday in a game that will be carried on ESPN2.
Texas is ranked No. 25 in this week's Associated Press poll.
