411OnTheForty: Men’s basketball adds non-conference games to schedule

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas men's basketball team has announced the addition of five non-conference home games.
Although the expected showdown against Gonzaga was nixed for this season, Villanova will come to town for the Big 12/Big East Challenge. A date and time has not yet been set.
In addition, the Horns will prepare for a grueling conference schedule with matchups against in-state foes: Texas State, Texas A&M Corpus-Christi and Sam Houston State.
A Dec. 9 game against Texas State will be the Longhorns' final chance to refine their skills before taking on Baylor to open Big 12 play. Sam Houston State comes to the Erwin Center a week later, Dec. 16. A Dec. 29 duel with Texas A&M Corpus-Christi should allow Texas a final tuneup prior to a crucial Jan. 2 road contest against Kansas.
Coleman named to Cousy Award Watch List
Senior point guard Matt Coleman will be one of the key pieces of this team. Coleman was named Monday to the 2021 Bob Cousy Award Watch List, an honor annually given to the nation's top point guard. Last week, he and three of his teammates were named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team. Longhorn fans can vote for Coleman III beginning Nov. 6 at hoophallawards.com.
