Sophomore All-American Breaunna Addison wins Duke Invitational
CARY, N.C. – Texas sophomore All-American Breaunna Addison posted her fourth win in three days and claimed the white singles bracket title at the Duke Invitational.
Addison (Boca Raton, Fla.) registered a 6-2, 6-3 win over North Carolina’s Jamie Loeb to win the white singles draw. Addison did not drop a set in her four singles matches at the Duke Invitational.
“Bree played at a very high level all weekend long and lost only a few games while beating some of the top players in the nation,” UT assistant coach Darija Klaic said. “Today's match against (UNC’s Jamie) Loeb had all the characteristics of a professional tennis match. The strategy was very specific, and Bree's impeccable execution gave her the mental edge necessary in a battle of two players with impressive tennis skills.”
Last spring, Addison became the first UT freshman and the third Longhorn ever to reach the singles semifinals at the NCAA Championships. Addison became the first Texas freshman to earn ITA singles All-America honors since Susan Gilchrist in 1990. Addison boasts 34 singles wins in one semester-plus of college tennis.
Texas resumes fall tournament play on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the ITA All-American Championships.
