Horns Illustrated Week in Review (September 9th-16th)

Football
The Texas Longhorn Football team fell to Ole Miss 44-23 on Saturday in Darrell Royal Texas Memorial Stadium. Ole Miss senior running back Jeff Scott set a career high in rushing with 164 yards. Scott scored a 5-yard touchdown in the first quarter and returned a punt 73 yards in the third quarter.
The Texas offense was without junior quarterback David Ash and running back Daje Johnson. Senior quarterback Case McCoy started in Ash's place and played well enough to give the Longhorns a 23-17 lead heading into halftime.
The Ole Miss Rebels scored 30 unanswered points in the second half and handled the Longhorns their second non-conference loss of the season.
Mack Brown and Texas players have now put their focus on winning the Big 12 championship. To do that, the Longhorns will have to beat a Kansas State Wildcats team in Austin on Saturday that has beaten them five years in a row.

Volleyball
The Texas Longhorn Volleyball team traveled to Champaign, Ill. this week and competed in the Illini Classic. The Longhorns downed No. 14 Illinois in a five-setter (25-23, 23-25, 25-13, 24-26, 15-11) to finish off the weekend. The Longhorns were defeated 3-0 by the Arizona State Sundevils the day before.
All-Americans Haley Eckerman and Bailey Webster combined for 40 kills in the 3-2 win over the Illini.

Tennis
Sophomore All-American Breaunna Addison won the white singles bracket at the Duke Invitational this weekend. Addison defeated University of North Carolina's Jamie Loeb 6-2, 6-3.
Addison did not drop a set in her four singles matches at the Duke Invitational.
Last year, Addison became the first UT freshman and the third Longhorn ever to reach the singles semifinals at the NCAA Championships.
Soccer
The Texas Women's Soccer team traveled to Colorado over the weekend to play Air Force and Colorado College. On Sunday, the Lady Longhorns were defeated 2-0 by Colorado College. Two second-half goals by Jessie Ayers in the 59th minute and Kaeli Vandersulis in the 83rd minute sealed the deal for Colorado College.
On Friday, the Lady Longhorns defeated Air Force 3-1. After falling behind early in the 10th minute, the Lady Longhorns scored three unanswered goals in the 14th, 49th, and 55th minute to win the match.
The Longhorns will Texas State on Friday and UTSA on Sunday at Mike A. Meyers Stadium this upcoming weekend.
