
Senior Brejae Washington highlighted the weekend on Sunday afternoon when she broke the Longhorn record for career hits. During game three against Oklahoma State, Washington beat out a bunt-single in the bottom of the first to bring her career hits total to 246, establishing herself as the all-time hits leader at Texas (30-19, 9-4 Big 12). The Longhorns went on to defeat the Cowgirls 3-0, earning the series win 2-1.

Texas dropped the first game of the series against Oklahoma State on Friday evening 5-3. The Longhorns were up 3-1 with two outs in the top of the seventh inning, before the Cowgirls were able to manufacture four runs to take the game. Oklahoma State outhit the Longhorns 10-6.
Freshman Tiarra Davis pitched for the Longhorns, taking the loss in her 18th complete game of the season. Devon Tunning and Stephanie Ceo led the Texas offense with a combined four hits and two runs. Tunning scored first, singling up the middle to plate Mickenzi Krpec. Sophomore Lindsey Stephens singled, also in the second, to plate Ceo and Tunning, for the Longhorns’ final two runs, both unearned.
The Longhorns bounced back from their game one loss with a 12-1 run-ruled victory over Oklahoma State in game two on Saturday afternoon. Stephens led at the plate for the Longhorns with a grand slam in the third inning. The hit was Stephens’ 15th home run of the season, good for first in the Big 12.
Davis started again in the circle for the Longhorns, pitching four innings and surrendering only one run off two hits. She finished with three strike outs. At the plate, Davis went 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Through her two games against the Cowgirls, Davis is now 15-10 on the season and 7-4 in the Big 12.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings before the Longhorns scored five in the bottom of the third sparked by Stephens’ grand slam. Davis finished the inning with a single to left field which plated senior Taylor Thom. The Longhorns went on to score seven in the fourth inning off a single by Washington, three walks and three wild pitches.
Oklahoma State scored its only run off a home run by Tiffany Mikkeleson in the top of the fourth inning.
In game three, junior Gabby Smith started in the circle for the Longhorns, throwing her third complete game of the season, a 3-0 shutout. Smith gave up only three hits and walked six batters through seven innings, getting the win for the Longhorns and improving to 13-4 on the season. At the plate, Smith went 2-for-2 with an RBI.
All three of the Longhorns runs came during the second inning. Senior catcher Mandy Ogle doubled to left field, plating Tunning. Smith followed with a single towards second based to score Kelli Hanzel. Washington extended her career total to 247 hits with a single to plate Ogle.
Washington also leads in several other categories – she leads in triples (20), sacrafice hits (31), sacrafice files (10) and stolen bases (128). Former Longhorn Lexy Bennett, who graduated in 2012, previously held the record for career-hits at Texas.
The Longhorns will host Kansas this weekend in a three-game series. Game one is scheduled to start at 7 pm on Friday evening.
