Texas Baseball Gameday: vs. Rice (May 31)

The Longhorns have a quick turnaround after advancing to the winner’s bracket following an 8-1 thumping of former conference rival Texas A&M in the first game of the Houston regional.

The No. 2 seeded Longhorns face No. 1 seeded Rice, another former conference rival, at 7 p.m., Saturday, at Reckling Park.

With seven national titles (six belonging to Texas) and 41 College World Series appearances between them, this game represents a clash of storied baseball programs.

Rice (42-18), who won the Conference USA Championship, defeated George Mason 7-2 in the first game of the regional tournament to advance to the winner’s bracket.

The Longhorns aren’t far off record-wise, going 38-16 in the stacked Big 12 Conference before falling twice to Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Championship tournament. The Longhorns are now 39-18.

The loser of tonight’s game will face the winner of Texas A&M and George Mason’s elimination game, which takes place at 3 p.m.
