LUBBOCK, Texas — Junior forward Jasmine Hart scored with 21 seconds remaining in the second overtime period to give the University of Texas women’s soccer team a 2-1 road victory victory over Texas Tech.

Hart’s goal, in the 110th minute, was the fifth-latest goal in UT history, and the latest since NCAA rules changed to have tied games continue with up to two sudden-victory overtime periods. Under the current rules, the goal came in the last possible minute of play.

Texas head coach Angela Kelly said she felt[s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)] lucky to get out of Lubbock with a victory over Texas Tech, which is ranked 17th in the nation in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll.

“I thought Texas Tech played a heck of a game,” Kelly said. “For all intents and purposes, we stole one tonight. It was a great finish by Jaz (Hart), and Lindsey (Meyer) got up the field. Overtime is always tough for both squads. It was a battle, and Jaz tucked it away in the upper 90, far post — just a great finish. I’m just really proud of our squad for their resiliency away from home and their effort.”

The victory gave Texas its second victory over a ranked team this season, a feat the Longhorns have not accomplished since 2010. UT won Sept. 7 at then-No. 8 UCLA and now has two victories on the road over top-20 opposition for the first time since 2002.

Texas Tech scored on its first shot when Janine Beckie beat Texas goalkeeper Abby Smith from just inside the penalty box in the 27th minute. The Red Raiders’ lead was short-lived, however, as freshman forward Mikayla Flores scored the equalizer for the Longhorns in the 30th minute off assists from freshman forward Alexa Adams and Meyer.

The Longhorns walked away with the victory, despite coming up on the short end of several statistics, including shots (18-11), shots on goal (11-6) and corner kicks (13-2). Flores led the UT offense with four shots; six other Longhorns — including Smith — had one shot apiece.

Texas is back in action at 6 p.m. next Friday, Oct. 23, when the Longhorns host Oklahoma.
