COLUMBUS, Ohio — Sophomore forward Alexa Adams stretched her team lead in goals to four and points to nine when she scored in the fourth minute, but that was all the offense the Texas soccer team would get and the Longhorns were unable to hold on Friday, falling, 2-1, in overtime to No. 19 Ohio State at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

The score reflected the closeness of the game. Texas was outshot by Ohio State, 12-11, but maintained a 4-3 edge [s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)]in shots on goals and a 6-5 margin on corner kicks.

With her goal, which she scored on a header off assists from Julia Dyche and Morgan Murphy, Adams now has at tallied at least one point in 10 of the Longhorns’ last 13 games.

OSU scored the equalizer in the 59th minute when senior forward Nichelle Prince was taken down by Texas goalkeeper Paige Brown after Prince had gotten behind the UT and chased down a long lead pass to create a breakaway. Brown’s foul gave the Buckeyes a penalty kick, which Prince converted to knot the score at 1-1.

After the game reached the end of regulation time without a winner, Prince ended the match when she headed in her second goal of the game — and the season — in the 96th minute.

With the loss, Texas fell to 3-3-0, while Ohio State improved to 6-1-0.

The Longhorns will return to the field at 12 p.m. Sunday in Oxford, Ohio, when they face Miami (Ohio).
