“That’s a new facility record and a new meet record for Jonathan Jones, the freshman from The University of Texas.”

The 400-meter dash by Jones was even more than the loudspeaker proclaimed as the UT freshman ran a 45.38 in the 400 at the Texas Tech Shootout to set the above-stated records.

Jones jaunt put him second in the world with his speedy sprint that also propelled him to win what seems like an inevitability when setting those kind of records — he was named Big 12 Conference Men’s Athlete of the Week yesterday as well.

It was his second time garnering that award as well, as Jones won the Big 12 honor back on Jan. 16. It is the true freshman’s second weekly award of the indoor season.

Saturday Jones added to his illustrious weekend when he ran a 21.16 in the 200 meters to become the No. 10 runner in Texas history in that event.

Jones and the Longhorns split this weekend to compete at the JDL DMR Invitational on Friday and the Aggie Twilight on Saturday.

The 2019 Big 12 Conference Indoor Championships will be held Feb. 22-23 in Lubbock.
