The Texas Longhorns picked up a solid road win Saturday at West Virginia, the kind of victory that was not against a top-25 team but could be valuable when it comes to sorting out bowl bids.
But what about the rest of the conference?
No. 6 Oklahoma 45, Kansas 20
The Longhorns’ next opponent [s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)]tuned up for the AT&T Red River Showdown with a methodical win at Kansas. Transfer quarterback Jalen Hurts added 228 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns through the air, and 10 carries for 56 yards and two more scores to lead the OU offense, while running back Rhamondre Stevenson piled up 109 yards and a score on just five carries as the Sooners cruised past the Jayhawks in a game that included a 30-minute lightning delay.
The Sooners ended the game early, scoring on seven straight possessions. OU’s 22nd straight true road victory, the longest such streak in major college football since World War II.
Oklahoma had 545 yards of total offense, compared to 360 yards for the Jayhawks, including a 268-130 margin in passing yards.
The Kansas offense was led by quarterback Carter Stanley, who completed 18 of 28 passes for 230 yards, throwing three touchdowns and no interceptions, and running back Pooka Williams, who rushed 23 times for 137 yards.
Oklahoma, of course, faces Texas Saturday in Dallas. Kansas has the weekend off before taking on UT next weekend.
Texas Tech 45, No. 21 Oklahoma State 35
Backup quarterback Jett Duffey threw for 424 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another, and running back Sarodorick Thompson added 69 yards on the ground as the Red Raiders knocked off the Cowboys in Lubbock. The victory was the Red Raiders’ first at home against a ranked opponent since beating No. 24 TCU 20-10 in September 2013.
Tech improved its record to 3-2 overall and 1-1 against Big 12 opponents, while Oklahoma State slipped to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in Big 12 games.
OSU running back Chuba Hubbard, the nation’s leading FBS rusher entering the game, ran for 156 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Cowboys’ offense. Freshman quarterback Spencer Sanders threw for a pair of touchdowns and 290 yards, but he also offered up three interceptions.
Part of the Red Raiders’ success can be traced to OSU’s five turnovers.
Oklahoma State is off Saturday and hosts Baylor next week. Texas Tech heads to Baylor for its first game in Waco since 2007.
Iowa State 49, TCU 24
Charlie Kolar’s 25-yard touchdown reception from Brock Purdy gave Iowa State a 21-3 lead with four minutes remaining in the first half, and the Cyclones rolled visiting TCU in Ames.
Purdy finished the game with 247 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air.
Following the game, both teams had 3-2 records and each had split its first two games of the season against Big 12 opponents.
Each team now has a 3-2 overall record, including a 1-1 mark against teams from the Big 12.
Freshman Max Duggan and transfer Alex Delton each got in the game at quarterback for the Horned Frogs, but Duggan got the vast majority of the snaps, completing 17 of 25 passes for 219 yards and a pair of scores. Wide receiver Jalen Reagor caught four of the passes for 69 yards and a pair of scores.
TCU is off this week before heading to Kansas State Oct. 19, while Iowa State is at West Virginia this Saturday.
Baylor 31, Kansas State 12
The Bears improved their season record to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Big 12 games by whipping the Wildcats in Manhattan, Kansas. KSU fell to 3-2 overall, and has lost both conference games in which it has played.
Quarterback Charlie Brewer threw for 230 yards and a score, while wide receiver Tyquon Thornton led the Baylor receivers with 92 receiving yards and a score.
Kansas State quarterback Skylar Thornton completed 22 of 34 passes for 218 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
The victory was just the third conference road win since 2016, and only the second under head coach Matt Rhule.
