For those of you unfamiliar with Greg Robinson, he is a defensive mind who has been coaching defenses in both college and the pros since 1975. In 2004 he was the defensive coordinator for the Texas Longhorns and coached that team to a top 25 defensive ranking. His approach in 2004 was simple and conservative but yielded great results.
How did Robinson leave his mark on the 2004 Longhorns team? His adjustments. The Longhorns drastically outscored their opponents in the second half during their 2004 season. I did a little math and by my calculations the Longhorns outscored the opponent 191-75 on their way to a Rose Bowl Victory (feel free to check my math on that one).
If Robinson could have a fraction of the success that he experienced in 2004 with this 2013 Longhorns team, I am sure that the fans, students and the university would be elated.
Robinson has been hard at work since he was hired, declining to conduct any interviews in favor of rigorous preparation. His enthusiasm is evident in the video below. What are your thoughts on Texas hiring Greg Robinson to replace Manny Diaz? Sound off in the comment section below!
