AUSTIN/IRVING, Texas — The Texas football team announced its full 2021 schedule Thursday, after the Big 12 released its lineup of conference games.
The Longhorns will tee it up against old Southwest Conference foes in two of its three non-conference games in 2021, beginning with a Sept. home game against Louisiana in Steve Sarkisian’s first game as UT’s head coach. Texas then will play at Arkansas Sept. 11 in the teams’ first matchup in Fayetteville since 2004 before returning home to close out its non-conference schedule by hosting the program’s 79th matchup against Rice.
The Longhorns, who finished the 2020 season with a 7-3 overall record and a 5-3 mark against Big 12 opponents, and capped off the campaign with a 55-23 win over Colorado in the Valero Alamo Bowl, will play its first Big 12 game of the season Sept. 25 when it hosts Texas Tech.
The Horns then leave Austin for a pair of games, Oct. 2 at TCU and in Dallas against Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl. The annual AT&T Red River Showdown not only pits the Longhorns against their fiercest rival, but also affords them an opportunity for revenge: last year’s 53-45 loss in four overtimes to the Sooners was the Longhorns’ only loss all season by a margin of more than three points.
The final six games on the schedule are split between road games and those played at DKR-Memorial Stadium. The Horns will host Oklahoma State Oct. 16, Kansas Novl 13 and Kansas State Nov. 27 in the regular-season finale, and will play Oct. 30 at Baylor, Nov. 6 at Iowa State and Nov. 20 at West Virginia.
The 2021 Big 12 Football Championship Game will be Dec. 4 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
