Contrary to rivals, Texas’ Mack Brown allows players to transfer anywhere
Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy is restricting quarterback Wes Lunt from transferring to an number of schools, including Southern Miss, where former OSU offensive coordinator Todd Monken is now head coach. Yesterday, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said he backed Gundy’s decision to block Lunt from transferring anywhere.
The other day, Texas’ Mack Brown voiced a different opinion.
“If a young man didn’t want to be here, we would help him go anywhere he wanted to,” Brown said. “That’s our opinion at the University. Each school, each coach, has the opportunity to do what they feel is best.”
The Longhorns have had many players transfer since 2010 who have ended up at in-state schools and former Big 12 schools — Garrett Gilbert to SMU, Darius White to Missouri, Connor Wood to Colorado, Darius Terrell to North Texas, Chris Jones to TCU, Traylon Shead to SMU by way of junior college.
