David Ash Named to Watch List for Inaugural Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award

TYLER, Texas – Texas quarterback David Ash has been named to the preseason watch list Wednesday for the inaugural Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award.

Ash is one of 35 players on the list for the award, which honors the top offensive player in the nation. The junior is already a member of the watch lists for the Maxwell (player of year), Davey O’Brien (top quarterback) and Manning (top quarterback) Awards.

Ash is entering his third season with the Longhorns, including second as the full-time starter. He has played in 25 games with 18 starts. He owns a 12-6 record as a starter with wins in 10 of his last 13 games.

He ranks eighth on the UT career passing yards list (3,778), ninth on the TD passes list (23), and fifth on the 300-yard passing games list (three).

Last season, Ash started 12 of 13 games and completed 214 of 318 passes (67.3 percent) for 2,699 yards and 19 TDs against eight interceptions. He ranked 15th in the FBS in completion percentage (67.3) and 21st in passing efficiency (153.28 rating).

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, which was announced in 2012 by the Tyler, Texas, Chamber and SPORTyler, is bestowed on a player who exhibits the enduring characteristics that define former Longhorn great and NFL Hall of Famer Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.

In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas high school and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year college.

The preseason watch list will be narrowed to as many as 16 semifinalists in November and then up to four finalists in December. The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Awards Banquet is set for Jan. 10, 2014 in Tyler, Texas, hometown of Campbell.
