AUSTIN, Texas — Senior wide receiver Devin Duvernay continued his solid 2019 with nine catches for 107 yards against Iowa State.
He now has 87 catches for 1,017 yards with seven touchdowns on the year, but was left off the list of semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award, which goes to[s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level2)] the nation’s most outstanding receiver.
“That’s pretty ridiculous,” Ehlinger said. “He’s proven that he’s doing an excellent job this year, better than a lot of guys around the country.”
Duvernay has six games of at least 100 receiving yards and has at least six receptions in every game this season.
“It would have been cool to be on it, but I can’t control that,” Duvernay said. “I just have to take care of my business and hope for the best.”
Moving inside to being a slot receiver this year, Duvernay has flourished, especially against the zone coverages Texas has faced so often this season.
“I just want to improve every year, and I feel like I’ve done that,” Duvernay said. “I’ve just done what I can to put my team in the best possible situation to win.”
It is the second year in a row in which a slot receiver has flourished in the Texas offense catching passes from Ehlinger after Lil’Jordan Humphrey hauled in 86 balls for 1,176 yards and nine touchdowns a year ago.
“I like to think the success there is because the two guys the last two years are incredible athletes and they’ve done a great job of being playmakers,” Ehlinger said. “I always know where those guys are going to be on the field.”
