Look – it is well understood that if a player does not perform well in practice, the chances of them getting to play in a game becomes less likely. If it becomes routine, the player is replaced by someone who is consistently performing.
It is the harsh reality of sports and life.
Everyone in college football agrees Texas is capable of winning the National Championship. Texas absolutely can beat Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Washington, and Alabama again.
However, because of the way they have played over the past several games, the College Football Playoff committee has to give the team who has consistently done well (won, dominated, and played highly efficient) the opportunity to compete for the national title.
It is the same, just like a player’s performance in practice.

Sarkisian knows this and would not be surprised if Texas was not invited to play in the playoffs, even though Texas is the only team to be Alabama at Tuscaloosa since 2019. It’s the law of the jungle. However…
If Texas plays Iowa State in the same high efficient manner they played Rice, Alabama, Wyoming, Baylor, Kansas, and Oklahoma, we are talking a 56-20 blowout, or 34-4 where Texas does whatever they want on the field, with precision and efficiency, Texas has an excellent chance of playing in the playoffs.
We are talking every drive, or 80% of them ends in a touchdown, all Red Zone opportunities end with a touchdown, not just a field goal, four penalties or less, and Iowa State being held to less than 100 yards rushing and 200 yards passing.

Because of how Texas has played their last four games (Houston, BYU, Kansas State, TCU) and barely winning, Texas has to regain position in the minds of those who have to decide who gets to play for the title.
Texas knows this and Sarkisian has put this team in a position to have the opportunity to win it all.
Look for Ewers to pass for 300-400+ yards, CJ Baxter to rush for over 100, Ja’Tavion Sanders, Adonai Mitchell, Xavier Worthy to all have touchdowns, probably a few, and the Texas defense to bring a massive wall of pressure, like a wave that engulfs everything as it curls and rolls, smashing into the beach.

Every game is the most important, but today’s game against Iowa State determines if they deserve to play against Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, or Oregon in the College Football Playoffs.
It would be our belief that Texas beats Iowa State 56-20 or 56-10. Let’s circle back around tonight starting at 7 pm on FOX. Texas has a way of rising to the occasion, it’s called #TexasFight.

Better NOT include playing Oklahoma in your resume for CFP consideration! Mistake or selective memory?
Selective memory for sure…that game threw Texas off for the next several games too.
