BUSINESS AS USUAL: Junior Marquise Goodwin claimed his second career national title in the long jump at the 2012 Outdoor NCAA Track & Field Championships June 6. “I have a great supporting cast out here,” Goodwin said. “There were a lot of great competitors out here who beat me before. I just felt it today and went out there and got it done.” Goodwin posted the top four jumps of the day at the Outdoor National Championships, ending with a personal best 8.23m (27-0) on his final attempt. He had four jumps over 8.10m. “During warm-ups I felt good,” [s2If current_user_is(s2member_level2)] he says, “but during the 4×100 [relay] we had a little mishap and it pushed me. I tried to build off of it and put it behind me as fast as I could with limited time.” Goodwin won the 2010 Outdoor NCAA Championship with a jump of 8.15m (26-9). He is the eighth athlete in school history to win multiple titles and the second to achieve the feat in the long jump. The men’s track and field team tied for ninth in this year’s championships. Goodwin went on to the Olympic Trials, winning first place with a career-best mark of 8.33m and earning a place on the U.S. Olympic Team. [/s2If]
