Four Longhorns Honored on Phillips 66 All-Big 12 Men’s Basketball Awards

IRVING, Texas — A total of four University of Texas players earned spots on the 2017-18 Phillips 66 All-Big 12 Men's Basketball Award teams, the league office announced Sunday.

Freshman forward Mohamed Bamba claimed a place on the Phillips 66 All-Big 12 Second Team, the five-person Big 12 All-Defensive Team and the five-person Big 12 All-Newcomer Team. In addition, freshman point guard Matt Coleman, junior forward Dylan Osetkowski and junior guard Kerwin Roach II each earned recognition on the eight-person All-Big 12 Honorable Mention Team.

Bamba leads the team and the Big 12 Conference in rebounding (10.6 per game), blocked shots (107) and double-doubles (14) and ranks second on the team in scoring (13.0 points per game) in his first 28 games. He posted nine double-doubles in his 16 Big 12 league games played. Bamba reached double figures in scoring 21 times and double figures in rebounds 18 times. He set the UT overall season record for blocks and the school and Big 12 Conference freshman season mark for blocks.

Coleman leads the team and ranks fifth in the league in assists (4.2 per game) and ranks second on the team in minutes (33.8 per game) and steals (35) and fourth in scoring (9.5 points per game). He has topped the 20-point mark twice and reached double figures in scoring 14 times this year.

Osetkowski leads the team in scoring (13.7 points per game) and minutes (34.8 per game) and ranks second on the team in rebounding (7.2 per game) and third in steals (30). He has recorded three double-doubles and reached double figures in scoring 24 times this year. Osetkowski has topped the 20-point mark four times this season.

Roach leads the team in steals (41) and ranks third in scoring (12.3 points per game), rebounding (3.6 per game) and minutes (32.8 per game). He has topped the 20-point mark four times this year and reached double figures in scoring 19 times in his 29 games played.

The official Phillips 66 All-Big 12 awards are selected by the league's head coaches. The coaches are not allowed to vote for their own players.

Texas (18-13, 8-10 Big 12) opens play in the first round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship against No. 10 seed Iowa State (13-17, 4-14 Big 12) Wednesday, March 7 in Kansas City. Tip is set for approximately 8:30 p.m. Central at Sprint Center, and the game will be televised nationally by ESPNU.
